We take pride in serving the uninsured children of Stanton and surrounding areas obtain glasses, vision therapy and hearing aids.
Many children may need corrective lenses necessary for reading or seeing the chalkboard. Other students may need vision therapy to read. Although Orange County is thought of as a wealthy community, there are many families who cannot afford vision care for their children. After paying for the necessities, (food, rent, etc.) families do not have money left over for a new prescription. Even families with health insurance might have problems. Their plan may have a high deductibles or co-pays. Alternatively, a child may break his or her glasses and their insurance may not pay for new glasses within a year. And many families may not qualify for the state of California sponsored plans.
In most cases we can pay for the examination, glasses, and vision therapy for children from families in financial need. This is possible because the Stanton Lions Club raises funds for the needy in our community. Furthermore our community partners, the Stanton Boys and Girls Club and local doctors, provide insurance and services at a reduced cost.
We also have help adults in financial need. If you know of someone who needs vision care but cannot afford to see a doctor, for whatever reason, please download our one page application here. (Click here to see the letter we sent to our local schools. ) Please be assured that the information on the form will be kept confidential, and we will not require income tax records or other documents. Contact committee chairman Dr. Gene Wilkins at 714-995-4571 for more information about how we can help those in need.

The Stanton Lions Club collects and recycles used eyeglasses. They are cleaned, inspected and sent overseas for persons with similar prescriptions. Local eye doctors have set up collection boxes in their office to help us out, and people drop off their used eyeglasses at the Lions Club House or at the Stanton Boys and Girls Club. In 2002 the Stanton Lions Club collected over 5,000 pairs of eyeglasses. Click here to see how your eyeglasses can help.
We also support a local hearing aid recycling program that provides reconditioned hearing aids to those in need. Consultations with an audiologist is also provided at little or no cost. If you would like to donate a hearing aid or know someone who cannot afford a hearing aid, please contact Lion Keith Campbell 714-536-9813 kcampbell5@socal.rr.com .
With the money we raise, we contribute to worthy charities that help the visually impaired deaf. In the past, our contributions have helped fund the Lion EyeMobile which is set up to give eye exams to those who cannot make it to a doctor, sponsored the Brail Institute's Leos club, helped train guide dogs for the blind, and the PADRE Foundation which helps fight Diabetes--the number one cause of blindness--just to name a few local charities. We also have helped support a orphanage/school for the blind in Thailand.
