The Stanton Lions Club surprised Dr. Gene Wilkins by awarding him a plaque for 50-years of Lions service during its annual Christmas party held in their “Milt Blumenthal Club House” Thursday, Dec. 16. Wilkins was a charter member of the former Cypress Lions Club where he served as president for two one-year terms. He began his Lions career in Long Beach where he served as president in 1961. “I remember my dad taking me to Lions,” Wilkins said. “‘We’re going someplace,’ my dad had said, and I ended up becoming a Lion myself and serving as president four times once with the Stanton Lions – this plaque is a great honor.” Last year, the Stanton Lions Club hall was named in honor of Blumenthal, 95, who takes care of the hall and also rents it out to other groups and organizations throughout the year. For Lions information, call Blumenthal at 714-533-0346.
